Article Part Reservation Not Being Released After Job Cancellation

Summary: Reserved parts remain unavailable after job cancellation due to missing reservation release trigger.

Symptoms

After a work order is cancelled or deleted, parts that were reserved for that job remain in a "Reserved" state. These parts cannot be allocated to other jobs, and the Available Quantity in inventory does not reflect the returned stock. The discrepancy is visible in the Inventory Report and the Part Details page.

Affected Versions

  • FieldPulse 3.1.0 – 3.2.2
  • All platforms (web, iOS, Android)

Cause

The reservation release logic is triggered only on job completion or manual release. When a job is cancelled via the Cancel Job button or deleted entirely, the reservation status is not automatically cleared. This leaves orphaned reservation records in the database.

Workaround

Until a fix is released, manually release reserved parts using one of the following methods:

Method 1: Release from the Work Order

  1. Navigate to the cancelled work order.
  2. Select EditParts & Materials.
  3. Click the X next to each reserved part to remove the reservation.
  4. Save the work order.

Method 2: Release from Inventory (Recommended for Bulk)

  1. Go to InventoryReservations.
  2. Filter by Status: Reserved and locate the affected part.
  3. Select the reservation and click Release Reservation.

Status

Fix targeted for 3.2.3. The engineering team has implemented a cascade release on cancellation events. Internal testing is in progress.
