Building Custom Dashboard Widgets
The Dashboard in FieldPulse provides a configurable view of your operational metrics. Custom widgets allow you to surface specific data points relevant to your role without navigating through multiple reports.
Prerequisites
- Account with Admin or Manager role
- Dashboard access enabled in your subscription tier
Creating a New Widget
- Navigate to Reports > Dashboard
- Select Customize Dashboard in the upper right
- Click Add Widget
- Choose a widget type from the available options:
- Metric — single value with optional comparison
- Chart — bar, line, or pie visualization
- Table — sortable data grid
- List — recent items or activity feed
- Configure the data source and filters
- Set refresh interval (real-time, hourly, or daily)
- Click Save Widget
Data Source Options
Each widget type supports specific data sources:
| Widget Type | Available Data Sources |
|---|---|
| Metric | Work order counts, revenue totals, technician utilization, SLA compliance percentage |
| Chart | Work orders by status, revenue by month, jobs by service type, technician performance |
| Table | Recent work orders, overdue jobs, inventory alerts, customer list |
| List | Activity feed, upcoming appointments, pending approvals |
Widget Configuration
Filters
Apply filters to narrow widget scope:
- Date range — preset or custom
- Technician — single, multiple, or team
- Service type — filter by service category
- Status — include or exclude specific work order states
- Geography — service area or customer location
Display Settings
- Title — custom label for the widget
- Size — small (1×1), medium (2×1), large (2×2), or full width
- Color theme — match account branding or use status colors
Arranging Your Dashboard
Widgets can be repositioned via drag-and-drop while in customize mode. The grid layout adjusts automatically. Changes are saved per user, not account-wide.
To share a dashboard configuration with team members, export the layout as JSON from Dashboard > Actions > Export Layout. Recipients import via Import Layout.
Limitations
- Maximum 12 widgets per dashboard
- Real-time refresh limited to 5 widgets per dashboard
- Historical data availability varies by subscription tier
- Custom calculated fields are not supported in widget data sources
