Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be here — I just joined as a Service Coordinator at a commercial HVAC company and my manager asked me to get FieldPulse set up for our team of 12 technicians. I have to admit I'm a little nervous about doing this right because I've never implemented field service software before and I really don't want to mess anything up that would affect our actual customer data or confuse the techs when we go live!
So here's my question — is there any way to experiment with FieldPulse using some kind of fake test data or practice environment? Like maybe sample customers and pretend work orders so I can click around and figure out how scheduling works and how the mobile app looks from the technician side without risking anything real? I tried looking in the settings but I got a little overwhelmed by all the options and I wasn't sure if I was going to accidentally create something that would be hard to undo.
I would absolutely love any guidance on this because I want to feel confident before I start training the team! We're hoping to go live in about 3 weeks so I have some time to practice but I want to make sure I'm using that time wisely. Thanks so much in advance for any help you can offer — I really appreciate this community already!
Hi Brianna! Happy to help — and congratulations on the new role!
Great news: FieldPulse offers a **dedicated sandbox environment** specifically for this purpose. Here's how to request access:
1. Log into your admin dashboard
2. Go to **Settings** → **Account** → **Sandbox Environment**
3. Click **Request Sandbox** — this creates a separate account with sample data
4. You'll receive login credentials within 24 hours (check your email, including spam)
The sandbox comes pre-loaded with:
- 25 sample customers with realistic addresses
- 8 mock technicians already configured
- 30+ example work orders in various statuses
- Sample inventory items and service types
**Important:** The sandbox is completely isolated from your production account. Nothing you do there affects your live data.
For detailed setup steps, see this article on trying FieldPulse with test data.
Feel free to ping me if the sandbox doesn't arrive within a day!
Pro tip: Once you're in the sandbox, spend extra time testing the **offline mode** on the mobile app — that's where most new coordinators get surprised. The sample data includes a few work orders marked for rural addresses specifically so you can simulate spotty coverage.
Also, don't just test as admin. Create a separate login as one of the mock techs and see what the field view actually looks like. I trained a team where the dispatcher never did this and she kept assigning jobs the techs couldn't actually see properly on their devices.
Oh my goodness thank you both so much!! I just submitted the sandbox request and I'm already feeling so much better about this. I never would have thought to test the offline mode specifically so I'm really glad you mentioned that, Josh — that's exactly the kind of real-world thing I would have missed!
I also love the idea of logging in as a technician to see their view. My manager actually was a technician before he moved up so I'm sure he'll appreciate that I took the time to understand what the team actually sees on their end.
I'll update here once I get the sandbox credentials and let you know how it goes! Thanks again!!
